Cygnar Gold

I really like having painted models on the table. I don't like having to do several steps to get those models on the table. The The Forces of Cygnar book's solution for Cygnar gold involves 5 steps and seven colors. I'm not into that, I'm a three step maximum kind of guy (and one of those steps better involve and ink, wash, or dry brushing). To create a happy medium for all the gold Cygnar likes to use, I came up with this.

Get one of these, just an empty pot will do.

You are going to mix P3 Blighted Gold, with Citadel Color Shining Gold at a 70/30 ratio. Secure the cap, and shake the living hell out of it. Remember you are mixing liquid and powder pigment so to really make it mesh you need to really shake the hell out of it. It should come out to something like this:

If you want more shiny then just add more Shining Gold. I also add water a couple of drops at a time till I get to the consistency that I prefer to paint with. For a side by side comparison you can see how this looks on the same model as the one in the book.

So there it is, my take on Cygnar Gold in one step.

Journeyman League

We and almost done with the Journeyman League at our store and really I do not have a ton to show for it. Looks like I will have scored a total of 13 painting points for the league. I painted the Black 13th Strike Team, and all my wreck markers.

Ever since I started having to fight against Hordes, I am using these a lot more.

BTdubbs I finished the Cyclone.

The Cyclone came out excellent. The touch and tone primer was a great surface to paint on. Here is the final result, he just needs to be based and sealed and he will be good to go.

New Warmachine Project

I hear that the next local tournament is going to be 20 points painted, or 15 points mangled metal. Either way I have some painting to do. I'm going to start with this Cyclone. I really like pairing him with the Arcane Tempest Gunmage Unit Attachment. This frees up focus for my Warcaster and and really makes him a swiss army knife with the rune shot ability.

I am also trying out a new brand of primer the guys at 40k radio recommended called touch n' tone. This stuff applied incredibly smooth, and I really didn't have to use a lot of spray to get a nice even finish.

Finished painting my Ironclad!

Here he is all finished up. I used citadel mithril silver, washed with badab black for all the silver parts. The blue came out great with P3's Cygnar Blue Base, followed by two washes of Cygnar Blue Highlight. The shoulder pads are citadel chaos black, and the studs and outline are P3 blighted gold. The gold on the legs, head cowling, exhaust ports, and shoulders are Citadel Shining Gold, then washed with the P3 blighted gold. The base was painted with a watered down goblin green. The basing material is from an old bag of citadel modeling sand. Note: DO NOT BUY THE NEW CITADEL MODELING SAND YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED!

Painting the Ironclad was totally worth it, because he charged around the board at the And Books Too Warma-Hordes Battlebox tournament yesterday. That Earthquake hammer knocked down, another Ironclad, and Scorcha. And turned a Cryx chickenwalker, an Iron Clad, a lancer, a juggernaught, and a destroyer into slags over the course of the tournament. He definitely had a pile of dead cogs to his name at the end of the day.

Paint Rack on the Cheap!

I've been getting the man cave in order and I ran into a problem with my painting table. Most of the available "real-estate" was taken up by paint pots. So being the guy that buys first and thinks about it later I went shopping around to see what was available. I was disappointed to find nothing at all at my local hobby stores. So I turned to the google, and found one that seemed pretty neat but I decided against it.

The carousel was really cool, but it was almost 50 bucks, and still would have taken up space on my desk. I really didn't find any others that I would even consider. Next I checked around to see what other gamers had done. The 40k radio freeboota forums have a great thread on man caves that is several pages long. Most of the man caves had something like this:

The theatre seating style paint organizer, which is cool but I decided that what I really wanted was to get my paints off my desk all together.

This is what I ended up with:

Materials Needed:

3 Plastic Tackle Boxes (3 at $6 each)

1 Set of mounting hardware (97 cents)

Hammer

Pilot Nail (Slightly larger nail than your mounting nails)

Yes its a fishing tackle box. I found a new gamer use for the tackle box. If you don't own any of these I got it for $6 at a large store that rhymes with Paul Blart. You can get these from pretty much any place that sells fishing supplies.

Step one. Rip the lid off, and put it in the recycling. You won't need it.

Next run a pilot hole into the two top corners. This is what makes your tackle box into a wall mount rack. You really don't need to swing hard to drive the pilot nail through.

I found the easiest way to mount it was to place the mounting nails in the mounting points you just created before lining it up on the wall.

These little dividers can become your shelves if your paints are too tall for you to mount the rack horizontally.
